How to get headhunted on Linkedin

LinkedIn is an incredibly powerful platform, especially if you want to find a new job. But this doesn't necessarily mean you need to apply for 50 roles. 90% of recruiters actively use LinkedIn as their main "job-board", so you should see it as your public CV. If your profile is optimised, recruiters and hiring managers will come to you.

Add skills to your profile and use key words relevant to your desired role.
Recruiters and hiring managers use advanced tools that search LinkedIn's predefined list of skills. As a result, those who post skills are 13 times more likely to have profile views compared to those who don't. Make sure you choose the most relevant and don't add them in for the sake of it, as this will dilute your offering. Instead, think about the skills that are essential for the role you want and go from there. You may also find that you can add relevant achievements or certifications, such as "Security Clearance" or "Microsoft Certified: PL-900".

Use industry standard job titles.
Similarly to how skills determine search results, job titles can also determine how easy it is to find you. It may be tempting to add in something extravagant, like "Dynamics King" but in reality, this won't help you get found as recruiters and hiring manager use key words and industry standard terms in their searches. Instead, use your headline and profile to provide further information that still gives an indication of what you can offer to a potential hirer.

Update your headline.
Your photo, name, job title and headline are the only items people see when they do a search. Use your headline to share your main objective, or highlight what you do and what type of position you're looking for. This will compliment your job title and allow you to showcase a bit of personality.

Highlight recent experience.
You want your recent experience evident to anyone who views your page, especially when you're actively engaging with connections and companies to land a job.

Be proactive.
Now is the perfect time to be networking and introducing your experience to future hiring managers. Make sure you utilise the "Open to new opportunities" tool. When toggled, this proactively notifies relevant recruiters based on your skill-set.
